The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has simplified the registration process for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to make it easier for a wide range of users, including software houses, call centers, banks, embassies, and freelancers through PTA’s website.

In a statement, the PTA outlined that members of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) are among those eligible to benefit from the simplified procedure. To register, applicants must complete an online form requiring information such as their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number, company registration details, and tax status. Freelancers must provide proof of their work affiliation, like a letter or email verifying their association with a project or employer.

Applicants are also required to submit an IP address for VPN connectivity. If a fixed IP address is necessary, it can be obtained from an Internet Service Provider (ISP). The PTA emphasized that this registration process is free of charge, and applications are typically processed within 8 to 10 hours.

This initiative has already facilitated the registration of over 20,000 companies and freelancers. PTA also provided guidelines for those using VPNs for commercial purposes. Individuals in this category must apply under the “freelancer” designation and submit relevant documentation, including employer verification, to ensure compliance with PTA regulations.
