ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: The federal government on Wednesday appointed Nasir Mahmood Khosa the chief secretary of Punjab, and announced the transfers of other officials as well.

Before the latest assignment, Khosa was serving as the chief secretary of Balochistan. Earlier in the day, sources said the Punjab government had short-listed Khosa and Federal Commerce Secretary Zafar Mehmood for the office of Punjab chief secretary.

The slot had been vacant since the removal of Javed Mehmood. While the sources said the administration had sent Javed Mehmood on leave because of an accident that killed a retired colonel, a DGPR handout said Javed Mehmood himself applied for leave and the chief minister had accepted the request.

The Services and General Administration Department had given Planning and Development Board Chairman Muhammad Sami Saeed the additional charge of the Punjab chief secretary’s office.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, the Establishment Division — in a separate notification — said the government had transferred Environment Secretary Kamran Lashari to the office of petroleum secretary.

The government also promoted Shahida Saadullah, a director at the Pakistan Computer Bureau (PCB), from Grade 20 to Grade 21, appointing her director general of the bureau.

Law Ministry Deputy Solicitor Nayyar Iqbal has been appointed private secretary to the minister of state for railways.
