Faisalabad: Lyallpur literature festival opened at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, in which students from 31 universities across the country are giving voice to their innovative ideas. The events are being organised by office of senior tutor; and department of libraries on the direction of UAF Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan.

The festival, which is spreading over five days, featured book fair, Qirat and naat competition, literary discussions, debate, drama competition and Mushairas etc. The day was opened with Qirat and Naat competition in the morning followed by Bilingual Declamation (initial round).

At the Qirat competition, Hafiz Muhammad Tayyab from Punjab University bagged the first position, whereas Hafiz Rehmatullah from GC University Lahore got second and Nakash Saeed from University of Gujrat stood third. At Naat competition, Shahzad Khan from GCU Lahore clinched first, Zainul Hassan from Punjab University stood second and Amna Hussain from Punjab Medical College got the third position.

The festival, having two components including All Pakistan Students Week and Book Fair, is meant to promote literary activities and to provide a platform to the youth to showcase their abilities before the gathering. The student week comprises, Naat and Qirat contests, bilingual declamation, Punjabi Takra, quiz competition, Maushaira, folk songs, and drama competitions etc.

At the book fair, renowned publishers from four corners of the country staged their stalls, which remain a source of attraction for the books lovers. As many as 36 books stalls, having more than 1,00,000 books were set up at the event. The fair was aimed at promoting the reading habits among the youth. The 31 universities including Punjab University, Lahore College for Women, UAVAS, GCUL, King Edward Medical University, University of Jamshoro, Univ. of Poonch, Rawalakot, AJK, Karakoram Int. University Gilgit Baltistan, Gomal Univ. DI Khan, NUML, Quaid-e-Azam University, University of Sargodha, BZU, UET Lahore, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Peshawar University, Sindh University and Gujrat University etc were participating at the students week. As many as 104 male and 56 female students from various universities were taking part at the contests.
