World newspaper circulation soars

PARIS (AFP) – Worldwide newspaper circulation soared nearly 10 per cent in the five years to 2005, according to a study released that sharply challenges the widespread notion, the print media is moribund.

The World Association of Newspapers said the number of paid for daily papers came to a record 10,104 in 2005, an increase of 13 per cent over 2001.

The group described its findings as remarkable they showed that newspapers were more than holding their own again competition from other media.
