Woman seeks protection
SUKKUR, Oct 3: A divorced woman appealed to the Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday to order police to protect her and her family from her former husband who she alleged was threatening them if they did not pay him Rs100,000 fine imposed by an illegal ‘jirga’. The bench comprising Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery admitted the case for regular hearing on October 5.
Ms Zarina, daughter of Jalaluddin Panhwar, said in the petition that she had sought divorce from her husband, Allah Ditto Dhoondho, through Civil Court Daharki in 2004. But her former husband never accepted the courtÂ’s decision. On August 17 he got an illegal jirga presided over by Khuda Bux Mahar in Daharki impose a fine of Rs100,000 on her father and since then he had been threatening them with dire consequences if they did not pay the fine.
