Woman held for killing wife of ex-husband

By Tahir Siddiqui

KARACHI: A 24-year-old woman was arrested and booked for killing the wife of her former husband in Rizvia Society on Friday, witnesses and police said.

They said that the victim, Naheed, 28, was the third wife of Asif Ali, a bank employee, and she was shot dead by Nadia, who was divorced in 2007.

The SHO of the Rizvia Society police station, Inspector Mohammed Atif, told Dawn that Nadia came to the house of her former husband at around 2.30pm and shot the victim, who had given birth to a baby girl four days ago.

He quoted the suspect as saying that she killed the victim because she was responsible for her divorce.

The SHO said that the suspect used her father’s licensed pistol to kill the victim, who married Asif some 15 months ago. “A spent bullet casing was also secured from the crime-scene,” he added.

The victim’s husband told the police that his former wife came to his house (K-187) in Kashmiri Mohallah and suddenly pumped a bullet into the chest of the victim. He said he overpowered the suspect and relieved her of the pistol.

The police said that the victim woman was the third wife of Asif, who had a son from his second wife. They said that Asif had first married Shahida three years ago. They said the couple remained childless and Asif divorced his first wife in 2006.

The police said that later Asif married Nadia. They said that the man divorced his second wife two months after she gave birth to a son, who remained in the custody of his father.

The police said that the suspect, who lived with her father in 400 Quarter in Gulbahar, became frustrated when she was deprived of her son and took such an extreme action.

The police registered a case (FIR 198/2009) against Nadia under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of her former husband.

She was also booked in another case (FIR 197/2009) under Section 13-D of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965 for possessing an illicit weapon.
