Woman cop lodges assault case against Christian hostel’s administrator
KARACHI, April 15,2005: A woman police constable lodged on Wednesday a case of assault and battery against the administrator of Brenton Carey Hostel, Ms Ghazala Shafiq, and 15 other Christian women at Frere police station.
Woman police constable Naureen Rashid lodged FIR No 44/2005 in which she stated that she, with ASI Shagufta, went to Brenton Carey Hostel, a subsidiary of the Diocese of Karachi, Church of Pakistan, to deliver an official letter to its administrator, Ms Ghazala Shafiq, on April 11, Monday. Constable Naureen said in the FIR instead of receiving the letter, the administrator used abusive language against her and ASI Shagufta and attacked them with girls present in the hostel, they beat them, tore their official uniform and created obstructions in performance of their official duty.
A duty officer at Frere police station told this reporter that Constable, Naureen, wife of Rashid, said in her complaint that she and ASI Shagufta were attacked at Brenton Carey Hostel, when they went there on official duty on April 11. Ghazala Shafiq, the administrator of Brenton Carey Hostel said that she was stripped and beaten by a group of Christians who acted on behalf of Bishop Sadiq Daniel. However Bishop Sadiq Daniel has denied the charges.
