Woman accuses police of harassment

MITHI, Oct 22: A young Kolhi girl, who had married a man of her free will, has appealed to Sindh police chief, DIG Mirpurkhas and DPO Tharparkar to order an inquiry and take action against Islamkot police that entered into her parent’s house without any search warrants, harassed and detained them unlawfully for three days and later released them after receiving gratification.

At a press conference at press club here on Wednesday, Walhi, daughter of Nanak Kolhi, resident of Bhave Jo Taar village, tehsil Mithi, alleged that though she had married Lalo Kolhi, resident of Kehri, of her own free will and with the consent of her parents sometime ago, Islamkot police at the behest of some vested interests, intruded into house of her parents, harassed and detained them for three days, and released them at court’s order but after extracting bribe from them.

Police also deprived my parents of Rs22,000 she alleged and returned Rs12,800 when the matter was brought to the knowledge of a local PPP leader but police have not returned the remaining amount as promised before the same PPP leader.

Meanwhile, another resident of village Kehri, named Khair Mohammad Chachar, at the press conference alleged that police officials of Islamkot viz; Allah Warayo and Manthar arrested him and released him after getting a bribe of Rs50,000.

Police also robbed cash from the parents of Ms Walhi, he alleged. The complainants have demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
