Woman accuses husband of selling daughters

LARKANA: A woman, Tajul Khatoon Tunio, of the town of Laloo Rounk has alleged her husband Dhani Bakhsh Khaskheli for selling four daughters in gambling.

Talking to journalists outside the press club here on Monday, along with her daughters and brother Ahmed Ali, she said that her husband, who was a gambler and drug addict, had sold four daughters namely Rubina, 10, Shabana, 8, Kanwal, 6, and Rashida, 5, to Saleh Patoojo, Sattar Patoojo, Sikandar Mughiri and Niaz Mughiri for Rs30,000, Rs32,000, Rs40,000 and Rs55,000, respectively.

Rubina and Shabana had been sold about two years ago while Kanwal and Rashida about one year ago.

After developing a difference over the issue, she sought divorce from him on Nov 12 and was residing with her brother Ahmed Ali Tunio in the same village, she said.

On Nov 17, her husband enter their house with the alleged buyers and asked to hand over the girls, she said.When she refused, they started fighting which left her father Habibullah, uncle Rehmatullah and close relatives Muhammed Ali, Deedar Ali and Muhammed Juman injured.

She called for protection and arrest of the attackers.

When contacted, Supervising Police Officer Warah Khan Tunio disputing the version of Tajul Khatoon said that it was not the matter of gambling. It was a domestic dispute and five persons were injured in a clash which took place inside their house where they were living in a joint family system.

Ahmed Ali Tunio, brother of Tajul Khatoon, registered an FIR with Wagan police station on Nov 17 against Qurban, Wadhal, Barkat and Dhani Bakhsh.

Police have arrested Abdul Hameed and Qurban (maternal cousins of girls` father).

The SPO has confirmed that two girls Rubina, Shabana were traditionally named to be married with two persons.
