Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed frustration over the current state of digital infrastructure in Pakistan. During a press interaction on December 28 in Ratodero, Sindh, he criticized the federal government’s focus on outdated projects and emphasized the need for modern infrastructure centered on digitalization and high-speed internet.

“PML-N’s politics revolves around motorways, but for this generation, infrastructure means digitalisation and high-speed internet,” Bhutto-Zardari said. He highlighted Pakistan’s lagging performance on global internet speed indices, noting that unreliable connectivity severely limits the country’s digital economy potential.

The PPP chairman criticized the government’s explanations for frequent internet disruptions, including outlandish claims like undersea cables being damaged by marine life. He mocked these justifications as inadequate in addressing the daily challenges the public faces.

“Why do fish only cut Pakistan’s internet cables?” Bilawal questioned.

Bhutto-Zardari called for an overhaul of the government’s digital infrastructure strategy, emphasizing that high-speed internet is a fundamental right crucial for economic growth and development. “Such excuses are not acceptable when people face disruptions daily,” he added.
