Western media’s propaganda hits Pak exports
LAHORE- Pakistan government should emulate United Arab Emirates that issued sovereign guarantee to compensate for ships damaged in its areas when war risk insurance was imposed on its trade.
This was stated by the representatives of the textile industry who called on the Pakistan government to take speedy steps to stop vast decline in export orders and higher cost due to war risk in the region.
Chairman, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association; Anjum Saleem said it looked funny that textile industry was being asked to pay war risk insurance when seas and ports were guarded by the American ships.
He said that the factories in Pakistan were running smoothly and there was no panic in the industry and markets. He said it was the failure of concerned government department, which could not counter the negative and baseless propaganda being carried against Pakistan by India and Western media. He urged the government to come forward to counter false and baseless propaganda.
Anjum said the decline in exports could be judged from the fact that Aptma used to issue export certificates for up to 250 containers a day at this time of the year but he added, it was now down to 80 only.
Chairman, Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association; Shehzad Aslam Khan said that the export orders of the knitwear industry would decline by 40 per cent in the next six months if the present negative trend continued.
He deplored the western governments those had advised its citizen not to visit Pakistan. He said this warning created negative impression about Pak economy and foreign buyers were in panic to cancel orders.
He said the exporters were making hectic efforts to convince their foreign buyers about the normal conditions in Pakistan. He said some had even succeeded in retaining their buyers but the majority failed to convince them.
He said government should arrange Pakistan’s visit for foreign buyers so that they could see for themselves that there was no chaos in the country.
