Website of Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) hacked

The website of Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) was hacked on August 15, 2010 by hackers calling themselves the “Indian Cyber Army”. They removed the contents of the website, replacing them with the flag of India and a statement that the site had been hacked by them. The hackers also wrote abusive language and warned of dire consequences.

The contents of the website remained safe in backup servers and the site was restored on August 16 mornings.

The PPF, a member of IFEX, is an independent media research and training organization, which monitors violations of freedom of press in Pakistan. The organisation also works to raise awareness of social, political and human rights issues.

Press reports quoting the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which regulates the cyber and telecommunications activities in Pakistan, said some 150 Pakistani websites have been hacked during the past three days leading up to independence days of Pakistan and India on August 14 and 15 respectively.
