Wage Board meeting held

KARACHI- The seventh meeting of Seventh Wage Board was held at Qasr-e-Naz under the chairmanship of Justice Raja Afrasiab Khan.

Representatives of newspapers employees including Abdul Hanleed Chaapra, 1.H. Rashid, Pervez Shaukat, Majid Fauz, Seventh Wage Board Secretary Amir Sial, former Apnec chairman Shafiuddin Ashraf, presidents of Karachi Union of Journalist (KUJ) and Karachi Press Club (KPC) Sarfraz Ahmed and Khursheed Tanveer attended the meeting.

Representatives of newspapers owners did not attend the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion the chairman invited the newspapers owners to attend the meeting and end the “boycott”. He said, “I am committed to safeguard the interests of newspapers employee, as well as owners.”

The chairman said that he had held meetings with Arif Nizami, Hameed Haroon and Fasih Iqbal and invited them to attend the proceedings of the Seventh Wage Board meetings. “I will also meet them if I feel necessary to convince them to attend the meeting.”

He said that his aim was to communicate the point of view of newspapers employees to newspapers owners and their view to newspapers employees to smoothly run the proceedings of the Seventh Wage Board meetings and announced the final award.

Mr Justice Raja Afrasiab Khan was of the view that if newspapers owners end their boycott, he could announce the final award in two weeks.

The meeting decided to continue the proceedings of Seventh Wage Board despite the boycott of newspapers owners.
