Wage Board chairman asks owners, workers to end differences

ISLAMABAD- Chairman Wage Board Justice Raja Afrasiab Khan (retd) has urged the newspapers owners and workers to end their differences through dialogue in their personal and national interest.

In a statement he said, it is not an issue, which has no acceptable solution. He urged both the parties to cooperate with each other and to realise their problems seriously. He said this while commenting on proposed meetings called by various organisations of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and newspapers worker unions, simultaneously in Karachi and Islamabad in favour of their stand in which there are chances of conflict between the two groups.

He said any practical dispute can cause severe loss to the country’s fourth pillar and said in this tense situation he feels himself severely distressed. Afrasiab said the owners and workers are just like the two wheels of a vehicle and it can only move forward if both work properly.

He said newspapers industry is a source of honour, dignity and income for both the parties. “At this critical juncture, my services are available to work as a bridge between the two. My doors are open to them.” He said, it is evident that both “owners and workers” have been affected badly by the price-hike. More than a dozen newspapers have been closed. The workers are suffering from price-hike. He expressed his confidence that if the two parties are united and realise each other’s points of view, the government would also extend its full cooperation to them.
