Villagers stop doctors from exhuming girl’s body

QUETTA: Hundreds of villagers stopped doctors, who were accompanied by policemen, from digging up grave of an alleged victim of honour killing in the Dureji tehsil, officials said on Wednesday.

The victim — identified as Bibi Nasiba of the Jan Mohammad Baricha village — had allegedly been murdered by her relatives in Sindh after she went off with a man to marry him there. She was buried near the village.

The district and sessions judges of Lasbela and Dadu had ordered an autopsy after exhuming the body.

Two lady doctors and a male doctor were dispatched to the village along with a police team and duty magistrate to dig up the grave on Tuesday.

When they arrived at the graveyard, hundreds of people, including women, stopped them from reaching the grave, citing taboos against digging up the grave of a woman.

They claimed that Bibi Nasiba had died of natural causes and not murdered. The medical team and police returned without carrying out their task.
