Veteran journalist passes away

Karachi, April 14,2005: Columnist and writer of film stories Maqbool Jalees, popularly known as Bhayya, died 81 here on April 12 after a brief illness. He was laid to rest in PECHS graveyard.Born in Pune (India) in 1935, Jalees authored many stage dramas and film stories, including that of ‘Anchal’ in the early `60s. He later switched over to journalism and started writing columns and short stories for newspapers and magazines.For a short period, he also edited weekly Paiman, Karachi.He regularly frequented the Karachi Press Club as a freelance journalist and remained associated with daily Aghaz as a columnist until recently.
