Uzma Ayub case: Family to move apex court in murder case

PESHAWAR: The family of alleged rape victim Uzma Ayub will move the Supreme Court against the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) verdict to bail out four men who were accused of murdering Uzma’s brother Alamzeb Khattak.
Alamzeb was shot dead on December 9, 2011, while escorting his sister for a hearing of her rape case at Karak courts. “We are dissatisfied with the PHC and have decided to knock the door of the apex court. We plan to hire the services of a constitutional expert, but are waiting for financial assistance to meet the needs of our counsel,” Zafran, Uzma and Alamzeb’s brother, told The Express Tribune.
Zafran registered a case at the Takhte Nusrati Police Station in Karak and alleged Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Hakim Khan, Javed Shah, Rehmat Shah, Ibrahim Shah and Abdul Waheed of having killed Alamzeb. The police later arrested ASI Hakim, Javed, Rehmat and Abdul Waheed. Ibrahim, who is said to have escaped the scene on a motorcycle and is the brother of ASI Hakim, is yet to be arrested.
‘Police is aware’
Zafran also alleged that investigators for the rape and murder cases knew who was responsible for both crimes but were not putting in enough effort to bring them to justice.
However, Kohat Senior Superintendent Police (Investigations) Attiqullah Wazir claimed that they had left no stone unturned in their probe and investigated the cases from various angles. “Whatever I have to do, I will prove it. We investigate cases with substantial proof and unless we have evidence against a person, we cannot hold anyone responsible,” Wazir said.
