Karachi: US Consul General Michael Dodman and the staff of his country’s consulate general in Karachi celebrated Sindhi Culture Day with a reception and qawwali concert on Saturday.

The American qawwali band Fanna-Fi-Allah performed a set of traditional qawwalis, including Qalandar’s Dhamal and Moor Muhara, for a group of media and cultural guests.

Addressing the media prior to the concert, Consul General Dodman commented on his love of Sindhi culture and observed that Sindhi Culture Day is a day that all Pakistanis could celebrate.

“Sindhi people have wonderful traditions and history. Those traditions and history are an important part of Pakistani culture and one that all Pakistanis can be proud of and identify with,” he said.

The American qawwali band Fanna-Fi-Allah has deep roots in Pakistan and Sindh, with several band members having studied with Pakistan’s present-day qawwali greats for over a decade.

The band is touring Pakistan this month as part of a State Department-sponsored programme and will be performing throughout Sindh and Punjab in the coming weeks, according to a press release issued by the consulate.
