Unregistered IP addresses to be blocked

Pakistan Press Foundation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Tuesday that all unregistered foreign IP addresses will be blocked with immediate effect.

According to a statement, the regulator has thus far confiscated 711 illegal gateways in 112 raids conducted in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency.

To curb down illegal traffic, the PTA has further strengthened the process of monitoring grey traffic with the installation of a grey traffic monitoring system (GMTS) in October 2013.

The newly-deployed GMTS monitors foreign IP bandwidth to detect and block illegal foreign incoming voice calls to save losses incurred to the national exchequer.

For efficient utilisation of the system, the PTA has further narrowed down the white-list of IP addresses being used for legal services.

In this context, all IP addresses that are not registered with the PTA will be blacklisted and shall be blocked with immediate effect.

The IP addresses of authorised telecom users, such as International Clearing House (ICH), etc., are being white-listed in the monitoring system. Thus, it is advised to all the companies authorised to bring foreign incoming calls to Pakistan to get their IP addresses white-listed by contacting PTA immediately.

White-listing of IP addresses by the authorised users/companies will help them use the services without any interruption.
