University of Peshawar plans private TV studio

PESHAWAR,January 18,2005:The University of Peshawar is mulling to set up a private television studio on the premises of the university like the campus radio FM-107 in order to train, educate and entertain the students on modern lines.

The vice chancellor University of Peshawar Mumtaz Gul, announced this, while addressing as chief guest at a ceremony arranged in connection with the first anniversary of campus radio here on Monday.

Attended by a large number of faculty members and students from various departments, the ceremony among others was also addressed by Chairman Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Dr Shahjehan Sayyed, Dean Faculty of Management and Information Sciences Prof Dr Abdul Qayyum, former station director, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Hameed Akhtar.

The vice chancellor urged the students of journalism to focus the attention on the studies and profession with immense dedication and devotion in order to compete other professionals in a befitting manner.

He said journalism was the only and foremost mean for moulding public opinion, but “in our country education was mostly based on theory”. He asked the students to acquire practical know how too about their related fields besides theoretical knowledge.

Mumtaz Gul said the university is concentrating on the character building of its students and to equip them with theoretical knowledge as well as practical experience so that they could become useful citizens of the society. He expressed satisfaction over the performance of campus radio.
