On September 6, the Sindh Police suspended 12 officers for allegedly misusing social media platforms in a step towards enforcing discipline within the force. The officers were found to have violated departmental policies by sharing “inappropriate viral videos on different social media platforms.”

Earlier this week, Inspector General of Police Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, emphasized that “There is no place in the police force for those who tarnish the department’s reputation by making such videos” and warned that further violations would not be tolerated.

This decision, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon, followed the suspension of six officers the previous day for similar misconduct. Memon instructed senior officials, including the Additional IG Karachi, Zonal Deputy Inspector Generals of Police, and Senior Superintendents Of Police, to take strict legal and departmental action.

In conjunction with these actions, a notification from the Establishment Division, dated September 2, federal government directive imposing a strict social media ban on civil servants across the country. The ban prohibits civil servants from sharing content or engaging in discussions that could be deemed political or against the state’s interests. Officials have warned that breaches could result in disciplinary measures, including suspensions or dismissals.
