Unicef to support girls education in seven districts of Sindh

LARKANA: Chief of Unicef Sindh Ra’ana Syed chaired a meeting, of Unicef, regarding planning at district level.

The meeting was attended by DCO, EDO (Health), EDO (Finance), officials of district government, various departments and representatives of NGOs.

Speaking on the occasion, Ra’ana said Unicef had prepared an Action Plan with assistance of government of Pakistan under a five-year plan. Under the action plan, work on various schemes would be started in seven districts, including Larkana.

These would include girls education, integrated early childhood development plan, immunization, fight against HIV/AIDS, protecting children from violence, exploitation, abuse and discrimination, healthcare facilities for mothers and children, availability of potable water, provision of better environment, drainage system, primary education, etc, she said.

She added that the purpose of these schemes was to eliminate difference between urban and rural areas, and between the poor and the rich, as well as to bring forth talent found in youths.

She said we are also endeavouring for girls and boys to enjoy equal importance, for which we shall be needing cooperation of people and social outfits.

DCO Badruddin Ujjan held out an assurance that district government would extend all-out cooperation for these schemes. He said a five-member committee would be formed in each Taluka of Larkana to look after welfare schemes.
