KARACHI: It was three days of arts, education and entertainment (April 5 to 7) at the British Council Karachi Library when the all-female UK-based theatre group ‘Struts and Frets’ held day-long workshops for theatre enthusiasts as well as produced and performed a bespoke theatrical adaptation of Sherlock Holmes’ A Scandal in Bohemia.

“We were absolutely delighted to be invited to perform and give workshops at the British Council Karachi Library,” said Francesca De Sica, the director of the play.

“Having visited, and fallen in love with Pakistan, last year, and being avid readers and supporters of the arts and education, this was the perfect opportunity for us to combine everything we believe in. We hope that this is one of many joyful collaborations,” she added.

Michael Houlgate, area director Sindh and Balochistan at the British Council in Pakistan, said that they wanted to connect the UK to Pakistan, and Pakistan to the UK. “Through this series of performances and workshops, we will showcase the best of British culture, and will also help create new opportunities and skills for the young people of Pakistan.

“The performances of A Scandal in Bohemia present a classic tale from 19th century Britain but retold in a way that showcases the best of 21st century Britain — creative, vibrant and diverse,” he said.
