Two sisters posted as SHOs

NAWABSHAH: Feminism got a boost recently when two sisters were appointed Station House Officers at predominantly male police stations. The sisters are the first two women SHOs in the country, barring those who have held the position in women police stations.

Two other sisters are serving as SI and ASI.

Rukhsana Leghari and Sanam Leghari, who had been serving as sub-inspectors in the Sindh police, have now been posted as SHOs in Benazirabad and Hyderabad districts respectively.

The proud father, Gul Hassan Leghari, is the director of campus in the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam.

Three of the four sisters, Rukhsana, Sanam and Samina, joined the Sindh police in 2002 through the Sindh Public Service Commission.

Rukhsana, SHO at the airport police station in Benazirabad, holds a master’s in science and a bachelor’s degree in law. She topped the examinations for the post of sub-inspector. She completed her training from Shahdadpur.

Ms Rukhsana has served at various police stations in the Hyderabad region and was in charge of the driving licence branch before assuming the current position.
