Two low-intensity blasts panic Multan

MULTAN: Two low intensity locally-assembled bombs went off near Nag Shah Chowk on Saturday night, sources in Bomb Disposal Squad confirmed. Although no injury or life loss was reported from the spot, the blasts spread panic in the city.

The Bomb disposal, Police and Rescue 1122 personnel as well as officials of other secret law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and swept the area. Sources claimed that 500 gram explosive material was used in the first bomb that was hidden under construction material and one kilogram in the other that was planted on the other side of the road.

Both the bombs are stated to be remote controlled. Investigations were underway but police could not trace the plotter. Meanwhile, the police foiled a bid to target public gathering of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani as it recovered and defused a bomb near the venue here on Sunday.

According to details, the police found a locally manufactured bomb weighing one kilogram from Nagshah Chowk of Multan where former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani was going to address in the evening. Bomb disposal squad (BDS) was called in which defused the bomb.

Police said that the bomb would have caused massive human losses if it had blasted during the public gathering but timely action foiled the bid. Quality seed guarantees high agri yield: Punjab Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh has said that quality seed is a guarantee to high agricultural production and therefore the Punjab Seed Corporation is directed to evolve a comprehensive strategy to ensure availability of good quality seed at cheaper rates.

Addressing a meeting here at the office of the Corporation on Friday, he warned that no negligence would be tolerated in supply of quality seed to the farmers. He asked the corporation authorities to ensure timely supply of wheat seed to the farmers and procurement of cotton seed.

He said that the interests of the farmers would be protected at all costs and strict action would be taken against those exploiting the farmers. He stressed upon the officials of the corporation to focus on developing seeds with qualities like high yield and diseases resistance.

He said that we could play a key role in giving a boost to national economy by increasing our agricultural production.
