Two killed over Karo-Kari; one dies in tribal clash
SUKKUR: Spiraling honour killings and raging tribal feuds continue to plague the peace of upper Sindh despite legislation by parliament to put an end to ages-old patriarchal customs and give the woman her due status in society.
Three people were killed and several injured in “honour”-related crimes and tribal clashes in different parts of the province during the last 24 hours.
In the first incident Haider Otho, allegedly killed his spouse, Rani, in village Char, near Daulatpur Safan, on the night between Monday and Tuesday because he suspected that she had illicit relations with another person.
The killer, later, fled the scene unchallenged and no case was registered till the filing of this report.
Separately, Muhammad Murad Essani, who had sustained critical wounds in a clash over Karo-Kari 15 days ago, succumbed to his injuries in a Larkana hospital early on Tuesday morning.
Reportedly, Muhammad Murad Essani, a resident of village Sardar Noor Ahmed Jakhrani, was seriously injured by armed men over a Karo-Kari dispute in Thull. He was hastened away to a hospital in Larkana, where he expired on Tuesday morning.
Although the Bahoo Khoso police had registered the case against three persons, Hussain Bux, Noor Hassan and Majeed Essani, but no arrest has been made so far.
In another incident a woman was killed and three others were injured when two sub-clans of the Gopang tribe clashed in village Bajhi Gopang, near Naudero, on Tuesday morning.
The two belligerent clans have been at daggers drawn over a petty issue since long. On Tuesday tribesmen from both sides opened random fire at each other, injuring four people, Rahima, w/o Karim Bux Gopang, Aslam Gopang, Azizan and her brother Liaqat. The injured were rushed to a local hospital where Azizan was pronounced dead on arrival. No case was registered till our going to press.
Seven persons were wounded in another tribal clash on the premises of the Civil Court, Pano Aqil, on Tuesday morning.
Two groups of the Channa tribe made ruthless use of clubs and batons in the clash, which left seven people injured. The wounded tribesmen were identified as Aslam, Ali Akbar, Zulfiqar Ali, Ali Asghar, Ali Hassan, Gaji Khan and Alam. The Baiji police have rounded up five persons – Aslam, Ali Akbar, Zulfiqar Ali, Ali Asghar and Ali Hassan.
Our Khairpur correspondent adds: A hibernating tribal row flared up after the lapse of five years on Tuesday, claiming one life.
One Muhabat Shaikh along with his associates allegedly descended upon the house of Manzoor Hussain in village Jam Shaikh and opened fire on the family. Resultantly, Manzoor Hussain Shaikh was killed and Muhammad Aslam Marri injured.
Reportedly, notorious criminal Barku Marri had killed two men from Muhabat Shaikh’s tribe five years ago. Tuesday’s killing is in revenge for the double murder.
Fear gripped the locality and the Gambat police set up pickets to stop further bloodshed.
Separately, a youth was killed when an electricity pole fell on him in village Phourhi Chandia. Villagers were uprooting the wrongly pitched pole from a street, when it slipped from their hands and fell on the youth, Qifayat Chandio, killing him on the spot.
Our Larkana correspondent adds: Seven armed dacoits kidnapped two brothers here on Tuesday evening.
Raja Mahesar and his brother Ghous Bux Mahesar, residents of village Phulpota, were kidnapped in the jurisdiction of Naodero police station. Witness said the dacoits took the two brothers to the Katcha area of Larkana district. Police were following the dacoits till the filling of this report.
