Two French journalists granted bail
PESHAWAR: A local court on Monday granted bail to two French journalists arrested last month on charges of illegal stay in Peshawar.
The court of additional district and sessions judge Mr Aurangzeb Khattak directed the two applicants, Francois Lino Candona of TF-1 TV and Christopher Phillipes Beneyre, to furnish two surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.
Earlier, the court of a judicial magistrate had turned down their bail application on May 31.
The two Frenchmen were charged under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act in the FIR registered at the West Cantonment police station on May 28.
According to police, they were arrested by the Special Branch Police for filming in the cantonment area. Police claimed that they were visiting Peshawar without any valid documents as they were having a visa for visiting Pakistan but had not obtained permission for Peshawar.
