TV Journalist manhandled by Railway Police

NAWABSHAH, January 24 2006: A TV journalist was beaten and arrested by Railway Police while he was making footage of railway police action against the encroachment on Railway Land at Nawabshah on Monday 23 January 2006.

According to press report, Railway Police snatched camera, press card and cash along with other papers from Rizwan Thebo reporter of Apna TV Nawabshah.

Local journalists held a protest demo outside the Hyderabad Press Club to condemn detaining and beating of TV journalist and demanded the government to take notice of the incident and take action against the cops involved.

They said this incident proved that the state and its machinery oppose freedom of press and want to restrict media and state authorities especially police seems unwilling and intolerant for media freedom.
