TV actress gets death threats

HYDERABAD, March 10: Noted television and radio artist, Mumtaz Kanwal, has accused some influential persons of Nizamani Mohalla, Khairpur, of issuing life threats to her and her husband, forcing her and her husband to leave their house and take shelter with an NGO in Latifabad.

At a press conference at the press club here on Thursday, along with Madam Mah Talat Sultana, vice president of Pakistan International Human Rights, Ms Kanwal said that these influential people had also registered a false FIR against her husband Raheel and brothers.

She said that on Feb 19, these people had barged into her house, resorted to firing and damaged household goods, forcing her to approach the Pakistan International Human Rights for shelter. She said, she had also filed a writ petition in the High Court of Sindh.

She sought intervention of the president of Pakistan and Sindh chief minister into the matter.

Madam Talat Sultana told journalists that the artist and her husband and children were living in the shelter house and appealed to the authorities to provide justice to the her and her family.
