LAHORE: Veteran journalist Dr Majid Nizami was remembered on Saturday in a program organised by the Human Rights Society of Pakistan (HRSP)
Paying tribute to the star of journalism at Hamdard centre, the speakers said that Dr Nizami was a man of his word, who spent all his life for the cause of two nation ideology, democracy and journalism. He was the biggest whistleblower of journalism in the country, they added. He wanted an Islamic, democratic and prosperous Pakistan with Kashmir its part, they said.

The speakers included SM Zafar , Senator Waseem Sajjad, Justice (r) Aftab Farrukh, Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad, Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dr Ajmal Niazi, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Syed Ali Bokhari and others. Qayyum Nizami, Absar Abdul Ali, Ahmer Bilal Sufi, Shahid Rasheed, Adeeb Javedani and people from different walks of life also attended the sitting.

SM Zafar said that it was bad to forget those who worked for a cause. He said that the society, by organising this program in honour of Dr Majid Nizami, had started a practice that would continue in future. He said that Dr Nizami was a true Muslim and patriot.

Waseem Sajjad said that Dr Nizami was a true journalist. “Dr Nizami was the only person who fought against dictators. He supported Fatima Jinnah against Dictator Ayub Khan. He founded the NPT and taught the new generation about the sacrifices made by Pakistan Movement workers. He also raised voice for the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh,” he said. PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that he had always learned from Dr Majid Nizami who helped him during tough times. He said that the late journalist wanted a true democratic Pakistan. He said that he wanted Kashmir to be liberated at every cost. He wanted the factions of Muslim League be united, the VC added.

Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad said that he worked in the Pakistan Movement on Dr Nizami’s call. Dr Ajmal Niazi said that he was proud to be a pupil of Dr Majid Nizami who used to ignore his mistakes. He said that he produced all big guns of media.

SEMINAR: Hameed Nizami Press Institute of Pakistan (HNPIP) is holding a seminar on “Impact of Dr Majid Nizami’s bold and ideological journalism on present day and future Media” on Tuesday at Alhamra Hall, The Mall.
