Tribute paid to former KPC president

KARACHI: The Karachi Press Club (KPC) organised a graceful ceremony in collaboration with the collaboration of a local newspaper at KPC on Saturday evening to pay tribute to former KPC president Salim Asmi in the field of journalism.

A large number of people, including journalists, artists, columnists, experts and others, attended the event and appreciated the services of Asmi. The ceremony was presided over by renowned columnist I Rehman and attended among others by Asmi’s co-workers, art critic Marjorie Husain, KPC president Tahir Hassan, Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP), Karachi president Ahmed Shah, SM Shahid and Zafar Abbas.

The event also featured launching of Asmi’s book entitled ‘Salim Asmi’ featuring reviews, interviews and articles.

Rehman while addressing the ceremony said that in the book of Asmi, there was no discussion about politics, political leader, or any other known person. The book comprised reviews on various topics, including articles on natural beauty and art, he added.

He said that Asmi had done lots of services for journalists in this regard and also faced prison. He was very friendly and was a person who cared for people and contributed to medical sciences. Rehman further asserted that he never found him working in rush as he used to work in decent speed.

KPC president said that people had love for Asmi and had saved the KPC in his tenure. He said he was very happy to giving him life time achievement award, which is honour for his team and club.

Art critic Hussain said Asmi had been source of inspiration for her and a person reading his article would not stop till end because his articles build an interesting curiosity in reader. ACP Karachi president also announced honourable membership of ACP to Asmi.
