Tribute paid to Agro

HYDERABAD: Contributions made by late Ghulam Rabbani Agro to Sindhi language and literature and his struggle against One Unit were remembered in a condolence reference held at the Dr N.A. Baloch Hall.

Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo who worked with Ghulam Rabbani Agro said he was not only a great writer but also a great administrator. He praised Agro’s work at the Sindhi Adabi Board (SAB) where he managed the quarterly magazine ‘Mehran’.

He recalled Agro’s association with Shaikh Ayaz, Ghulam Rabbani Agro, Jamal Abro, Tanveer Abbasi, Fatah Malik and Shamsherul Haideri during the Sindh Renaissance Movement in 50s and 60s with Shaikh Ayaz, Ghulam Rabbani Agro, Jamal Abro, Tanveer Abbasi, Fatah Malik and Shamsherul Haideri.

Abdul Hameed Sindhi, short story writer, said that Agro was a regular contributor to his journal ‘Roh rehan’ and they both strived to promote progressive ideas through the stories.

Sindhi Language Authority chairperson Dr Fehmida Hussain said the SAB had achieved its present status because of the efforts of Ibrahim Joyo, Ghulam Rabbani Agro and Sirajul Haq Memon.
