Transparency terms Pemra attitude towards Geo massive corruption

KARACHI: Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) has said that the attitude of Pemra with Geo Television Network was tantamount to massive corruption and for it an action would be taken under Article 9 of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance.
TIP Chairman Syed Adil Gilani, while talking to The News, said that any action on the basis of mala fide intention from a government institution towards any individual or any private institution comes under the ambit of massive corruption.
He said that in this connection, the TIP had organised all the record of the actions taken yet and the steps of the Pemra-like important and sensitive institution were being carefully observed at international level.
The TIP will include this style of corruption, which displays the partial attitude of the government institution, in its annual report and the present officers of Pemra will be unable to defend the steps. He said that action against the media, particularly this institution of media of the South Asia that has raised voice against corruption, was being observed cautiously at the international level.
The TIP chairman said that role of the government departments like Pemra would have far-reaching effects. He said that if needed, the TIP would raise the on-going attitude meted out to the Geo Television Network at the international level.
