Three women killed in Karo-Kari incidents

SUKKUR: Karo-Kari claimed three lives in separate incidents on Sunday.A newly-wed woman was killed by her father and cousins in Khairpur. Police said Fahmida Khuhro had eloped and married her lover Rasheed Dasti one month ago.

Police said the girl’s father Muhammad Bakhsh managed to convince her to return home and when returned her father and his cousins Fayaz and Salim shot her dead.

Her mother Maryam Khatoon received bullet injuries when she attempted to rescue her daughter. The Agra police shifted the body to a local hospital and registered an FIR against the accused.

In another incident, Muhammad Bakhsh Juno axed to death his wife Shamshad in the limits of Dahariki in Ghotki, alleging her of having illicit relations with someone. Police arrested the accused and recovered a Kalashnikov, a repeater and a hand grenade from his possession.

According to Sanghar police an accused, Khoubho Banghlani shot dead his sister-in-law Mahnaz Banghlani on the charge of maintaining illicit relations. Police shifted the body to a local hospital but failed to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, brother of the deceased woman told the police that the allegations were false. He said the woman’s husband was in jail and the accused wanted to occupy 150 acres of agricultural land his sister owned and shot her dead.

In yet another Karo-Kari killing occurring in the jurisdictions of Local Court Police of Tando Allahyar, an accused Naseer Sheikh shot dead his wife Sahar Memon and injured her brother Arif Memon and fled. Police said the woman had gone to the court with her brother for getting divorce from her husband, with whom she had held love marriage two years ago.

Police said the accused attempted to convince his wife not to get divorce but she insisted for the divorce at which he shot her dead.
