Three-day Urdu Press conference from May 24

KARACHI – A three-day national conference on “Urdu Press – Problems and Prospects” will be held in the city from May 24 under the auspices of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Karachi.

A varsity spokesman said on April 13 that Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali had been invited to perform the inauguration of the moot. The moot is being organised in collaboration with the HEC.

The conference spreading over seven sessions would cover various contemporary issues of the Urdu press including the daily and periodical press, present status, organisational, legal and ethical issues and future challenges for the print and electronic media.

The moot would deliberate in detail the impact of new and emerging satellite channels on the newspaper industry especially in rural areas.

The first of its kind in Pakistan, the conference would be attended by prominent media practitioners, executives, senior journalists, publishers and academics from all over the country.

The concluding session would be presided over by the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shaikh Rashid Ahmed.
