Telecom Subscriber Numbers Fall Slightly in November, PTA Data Shows

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported a decrease in cellular subscribers and 3G/4G users in Pakistan for November 2024. According to the latest PTA data, cellular subscribers dropped slightly from 193.309 million at the end of October to 193.238 million by the end of November.

The figures for 3G and 4G users also declined, with the count falling from 139.123 million at the end of October to 139.037 million at the end of November. The Monthly Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) penetration decreased from 57.02 percent in October to 56.9 percent in November, while total teledensity, which measures the number of connections per hundred individuals, decreased marginally from 80.3 percent to 80.1 percent.

Specifically, Jazz saw a decrease in 3G users from 2.087 million in October to 1.549 million in November, though its 4G users increased from 49.861 million to 50.191 million. Zong’s 3G subscriber count declined from 1.893 million to 1.867 million, but its 4G subscribers grew from 38.125 million to 38.300 million. Telenor’s 3G subscribers dropped from 1.434 million to 1.388 million, and its 4G user base slightly decreased from 25.478 million to 25.428 million. Ufone’s 3G users decreased from 2.100 million in October to 2.047 million in November, while its 4G user count saw a slight increase from 16.433 million to 16.473 million.

In terms of customer service, the PTA received 15,861 complaints against various telecom operators in November, with a resolution rate of 99 percent. The majority of these complaints were against Cellular Mobile Operators, where 15,291 of 15,375 complaints were resolved. Specific complaints included 6,271 against Jazz, 3,084 against Telenor, 4,087 against Zong, and 1,915 against Ufone, all with high resolution rates. Additionally, 120 complaints related to basic telephony and 352 against Internet Service Providers were also largely addressed during the month.
