An initiative that offers some meaningful and entertaining video content for the country’s youth, Teeli has been making and releasing videos online for some time. The videos aren’t just fun to watch but also serve as a light-hearted commentary on issues that confront the Pakistani youth at different stages of their lives.

The latest addition to the list is an Indo-Pak Independence Day special short film made by an Indian crew in collaboration with a crew from Pakistan.

Titled Matched, the film follows the story of two young individuals including a girl Maya, essayed by Surbhi Dhyani, from Amritsar, India, and a boy Sameer, played by Muhammad Ahsan, from Lahore, Pakistan. The two ‘meet’ on an online dating app and fall in love after frequent interactions.

Matched is a unique and much needed collaboration between a Pakistani and an Indian entertainment content platform, namely Teeli and Arre, respectively, that co-wrote, co-produced and co-directed the project. It highlights bonding between a Pakistani and an Indian and shows how similar the two nations are despite their differences.

While the love story is at the heart of the short film, it touches upon some basic issues that the youth on both sides of the border face.

It is as difficult to convince one’s parents for something out-of-the-box in Pakistan as it is in India and the struggle is real.

Coming to the plot, Maya, who studies in London and is back home during her holidays, doesn’t want to get married while her mother is trying her best to get her married as soon as possible. Sameer, on the other hand, has a 9 to 5 job that he wants to quit and work on his startup instead but is scared to speak to his father about it.

However, the two gather the courage with each other’s advice and support and succeed in convincing their parents and realizing their dreams.

Matched is a nine minute-long short film available online and it’s a must-watch!
