Pakistan Press Foundation

To address the proliferation of misinformation surrounding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has called for a coordinated counter-strategy on both government and media levels. During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong on March 21, Tarar underscored the importance of a “close and sustainable partnership” through CPEC for the benefit of the region.

Discussions focused on expanding Pakistan-China media cooperation and establishing the Pakistan-China Information Corridor to directly combat CPEC-related fake news.

Tarar and Ambassador Zaidong explored avenues to strengthen cultural and film collaborations. The Minister highlighted Pakistan’s rich history as an ancient civilization and the Gandhara civilization’s role in spreading Buddhism to East Asia.

The progress on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and the China Media Group (CMG) was also discussed.

Further developments include a film production agreement in the works between the Pakistani and Chinese governments, an MoU between APP and Xinhua News Agency in progress, and potential for a collaborative travel documentary between China Global Television Network (CGTN) and Pakistan Television (PTV).

Tarar highlighted Pakistan’s strong ties with China, stating: “We have to tell the new generation how China and Pakistan supported each other in difficult times.”
