Taluka Council opposes city govt status for Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, July 28 2006: The Taluka Rural Hyderabad Council on July 27 passed a resolution, opposing the conversion of district government Hyderabad into city government. Mir Ashraf Talpur, convener, presided over the meeting in which member Imam Bux Leghari presented a resolution against the conversion. Only Shah Faisal Nizamani opposed the resolution, while all other members voted for it.

In his resolution, Imam said with the conversion, the properties of the Taluka would be transferred to the city government and development works would be carried out only on the basis of likes and dislikes of the city government. He condemned the proposal of conversion and demanded its withdrawal. Speaking on the occasion, Taluka Rural Nazim Khawand Bux Jahejo said the Taluka Council has become the first council in the district for opposing the status of city government for Hyderabad and termed it an “anti-Sindh” proposal.

Meanwhile, a protest demonstration was staged in Qasimabad against the conversion. On the other hand, the committee formed by the district Nazim to listen the reservations about the city government continued its meetings with people belonging to various sectors. It informed the citizens that Hyderabad would get the status of the city government after consensus.
