Statement of APNS criticised

KARACHI, April 4: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (Apnec) have termed the statement of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) against the implementation of the 7th Wage Award and Newspapers Employees (Condition of Service) Act 1973 a pressure tactic and an attempt to influence the court, says a PFUJ press release.

In a joint statement, PFUJ and Apnec leaders vowed to defend all legal and constitutional rights of newspaper employees.

They said it appeared that newspaper owners had decided to adopt a policy of confrontation and had practically declared a “war” against the employees. “PFUJ and Apnec accept this challenge and will never surrender the legal rights of newspaper employees.” They said that even the journalistic bodies around the world have supported PFUJ and Apnec in their struggle, including International Federation of Journalists and National Union of Journalists.
