Sports culture being promoted in province: CM

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the provincial government is constructing sports grounds by retrieving land from the land grabbers, which were patronised by Musharraf and his cronies during their regime.

He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Mian Mir Sports Complex at Basti Saidan Shah, Upper Mall on Sunday.

He said that if the provision of sports opportunities to the youth is a crime, then he will commit this crime repeatedly as youth are the precious asset of the country, adding that he will continue to serve the masses till his last breath.

Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly, Members National and Provincial Assembly, Secretary Sports D. Allah Bakhsh Malik, Commissioner and District Coordination Officer and a number of youth were present on the occasion.

Shahbaz said Punjab government was endeavoring for providing sports opportunities in Lahore and other cities. He said sports culture had been promoted in the province and modern facilities of sports were being provided to the youth by retrieving the government land from grabbers so that healthy activities could be promoted.

The chief minister said that loadshedding of electricity and price-hike had made the life of the people miserable.

He said that the democratic government could not allow qabza groups to grab the government land, adding that action was being taken against qabza groups without any discrimination in the province and public welfare projects had been started by retrieving government land from them.

Shahbaz Sharif said a network of sports grounds was being laid from Attock to Rahim Yar Khan so that millions of youth should win the laurels for the country at international level by benefiting from modern sports facilities.

Shahbaz said that qabza groups tried to construct plazas and petrol pump on government land opposite Allama Iqbal International Airport but the government foiled their bid. He said that Punjab government enhanced the beauty of areas of Airport by planting flowers in large number and the people coming from abroad enjoy the eye-catching scenes.

He said that Lahore is heart of Pakistan and horticulture has been promoted on modern lines in big cities of the province including provincial metropolis.

The chief minister said that Punjab government was providing maximum facilities of sports through sponsors and its own resources, therefore, well-to-do people and welfare organisations should take active part in the collective welfare projects as a social responsibility.
