Special card for flood-hit families from today

By Kalbe Ali

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) will launch on Thursday the ‘Watan Card’ for payment of Rs20,000 flood relief grant to each affected family in Sindh and Punjab.

Nadra Deputy Chairman Tariq Malik said on Wednesday that four sites for verification and issuing cards, one each in Bhakkar and Mianwali (Punjab) and Thatta and Badin (Sindh), would start work on Thursday and many more sites would be set up in the two provinces during Eid holidays.

Mr Malik said offices in other provinces would be set up as soon as Nadra received requisite information.

He said the federal government and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would provide strategic support with overall coordination and liaison for acquisition of requisite approvals.

Provincial governments would be responsible for selection and establishment of enrolment sites and inform the Nadra about them.

Provincial governments would also be responsible for mobilising flood-affected people to get themselves registered for the ‘Watan Card’.
