Soomro lauds successful holding of ITCN Asia fair

KARACHI – Senate Chainnan Mohammedmian Soomro on August 10 said that successful holding of ITCN Asia 2004 exhibition and conference in Karachi reflects healthy and inspiring environment in the country, particularly in Karachi, and the city had indeed become the centre for such events.

He was speaking at the inaugural dinner for ITCN Asia 2004 conference and exhibition participants.

Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad hosted the dinner at the Governor House. Over 1,000 guests, including several hundred foreign delegates, who had especially come for the ITCN Asia 2004, attended the dinner.

Soomro said that the participation in the ITCN annual event had increased over the years and this was a very welcome development.

He said that we in Pakistan are determined to assist the Pakistani and foreign enterprises in setting up businesses here and provide them the required security too. Soomro said that the development of Pakistan human resource was best served by advancement in the field of information technology.

He lauded the efforts put in by the organisers of ITCN Asia 2004 for staging it successfully. The fmance minister and premier designate Shaukat Aziz, who has to attend the function as the chief guest, could not come from Islamabad.

Ibad said that the Singh government was committed to provide all the facilities to the foreign participants in ITCN Asia 2004.

He said that it was the biggest IT event in this part of the world. He stressed that countries seeking improvement in economy and providing import liberalisation like Pakistan had much to benefit from the development of information technology.

He said with improved law and order in Karachi and successful holding of ITCN Asia 2004, the city was becoming the hub of conferences and exhibitions, especially on IT.

A ceremony of presentation of plaques was also held on the occasion. Saudi Arabian Consul General H. E. Hasan A. Attar, Qatri Acting Consul General Jamil Abdul Wahab Abdus Salam, Indonesian Consul General Entjim Herrianto, Consul General Poland and many of the honorary consuls in Karachi, including Zia Ahmed, Mukhtar Zuberi and Akber were also present on the occasion.
