Software Export Board to set up IT libraries at STP Peshawar, Karachi

ISLAMABAD- Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) will set up two more IT Libraries at Software Technology Parks (STP) at Peshawar and Karachi to provide online services to Information Technology related people.

PSEB, the apex government body for the promotion of software exports, has already set up one library each at STP Islamabad and Lahore while one each will be set up at Peshawar and Karachi, the PSEB sources said here on November 26, 2002.

The sources said these libraries have subscribed 100 leading IT and business magazines and journals and more than 500 books are available with titles varying from IT, software programming to marketing and CRM.

They said that a large number of IT related people are turning up at these libraries and are benefiting the facilities of books and magazines on IT provided there.

They are being provided a unique feature of online services through which members can demand any article in a magazine or pages from a book through fax and e-mail they said.

The assistance includes online availability of database about content of books and magazines available in libraries at PSEB website.

Any member can ask for fax of any article or chapter they like from a magazine or a book available in the library.

The government has set up these libraries to provide access to all latest magazines, journals and books on IT and business to members and students.

Most of the subscribed magazines and books are not available online and are expensive and not subscribed by the libraries of the educational institutes.

PSEB libraries are getting an enthusiastic response from IT professionals and the number of visitors has been estimated over 500 per week. Students are top visitors, followed by professionals, marketing and management executives.

Students are more interested in latest technology magazines and journals than the books while the professionals go for the books on programming and executives going for Harvard Business Review for Fortune and Business Week magazines.

All member companies of PSEB, Pasha and Computer Society of Pakistan are eligible for the membership of these reference libraries, where books can be consulted but are not issued.
