SOC Films releases the final installment of animated series, Shattering the Silence
Earlier this year, SOC Films, spearheaded by two-time Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, released a 4-part animated series called Shattering the Silence – a public awareness campaign that aimed to create meaningful dialogue around issues of child abuse.
Recently the fourth and final animated short, titled Child Safety – Ways to Protect Yourself, from the series was launched. In the final installment, Dr. Maryam Suheyl leads a focus group, comprising only children, in a discussion about the ways in which young girls and boys can protect themselves. It sheds light on why it is important for children to look both ways before crossing the road along with understanding the difference between good touch and bad touch. It also focuses on personal space and how to navigate difficult situations like stranger danger.
Conceptualized, produced and directed by SOC Films, each short film is available on YouTube and is about 2 to 3 minutes long. The initiative, Shattering the Silence, was launched to engage audiences, especially children, with real-life stories of child abuse, and to educate them with relevant laws and resources that exist, and the steps that can be taken if they, or anyone they know, is forced into marriage, labour, trafficking, or physical abuse.
