Six Journalists injured, one lost eye

KARACHI April 12 2006: Six journalists in which 4 photographers of dailies and 2 cameramen of GEO and APNA TV injured, while a journalist lost his eye in Nishtar Park, Karachi blast.

According to media reports photographers and cameramen belonging various media were present at Nishtar Park to cover the ceremony of Holy Eid-e-Miladun Nabi. Just after the Maghrib prayer a bomb blasted which claimed 45 lives and left more then 100 people injured including 6 journalists.

Journalists received post explosion shrapnel on various parts of their body and were taken to hospital for treatment. A photographer of daily Asas, Shoaib Hassan got bomb particle on his eye, which was ultimately lost.

Similarly, a shrapnel hit calf of cameraman of GEO TV, Aziz Khan and despite of becoming injured he came back to hold his camera to capture the situation but confused public harassed him and stopped him from his duty. Whereas, Usman Shareef cameraman of APNA TV and Jawed Jiaja, photographer of daily Kawish, Qayyum of Qaumi Akhbar and Shakir Suleman, photographer of daily Juraat received wound on their hands and legs or thighs.

PPF contacted the injured journalists and found them still under treatment.
