Sindhi newspapers lauded
KARACHI: Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Information Jameel Ahmed Soomro has said that importance of Sindhi newspapers could not be ruled out because they are providing awareness and proper guidance to their readers about local, national and international issues.
This he said while talking to a delegation of Editors of Sindhi newspapers at his office here on Thursday. He said that Sindhi newspapers are serving the nation by providing authentic news on national, international, social, political and religious issues to their readers in the presence of Urdu and English newspapers while present democratic government accords due respect to the Sindhi newspapers.
He said that to strengthen and stabilize democracy in the country, efforts of Sindhi newspapers would be written in golden words in the history of Pakistan; however, the government is aware about the problems faced by small newspapers.
The advisor said that Sindhi newspapers should appreciate their readers and play due role to help eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country, adding the Sindh government would provide all possible support in this regard.
He said that it is appreciable that Sindhi newspapers had brought changes according to modern needs and technology. Sindhi newspapers are serving Sindhi language along with provision of news and are performing their responsibilities in well manner, he added.
Jameel Soomro said that Sindh Information Department has adopted a transparent system of the distribution of government advertisement. He said that efforts are underway to clear arrears of Sindhi newspaper.
He asked editors to serve their readers so as to stabilize democratic institutions and democracy. He assured them of full support from the Sindh government in this regard.
Yousuf Shaheen, Younis Mehar, Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Zaheer Meerani, Rafiq Pirzada, Sher Mohammad Khuhawar, Secretary Information Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah and Director General Syed Safdar Ali Shah were also present on the occasion.
