Addressing the event ‘Smart Cities & Digital Transformation’ held at the National Incubation Center in Karachi, he said Sindh remained behind in tech solutions, amid other problems, mainly because the province did not have a platform, which could promote IT solutions.

Participants at the event discussed how Pakistan can learn from Sweden, which can offer smart solutions to tackle urban challenges. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of Sweden in Pakistan Ingrid Johansson said, “Sweden’s industry, academia and government collaborate in clusters that produce start-ups and innovations for sustainable growth and the same can be done in Pakistan.”

“I look forward to increased trade and knowledge-sharing between Sweden and Pakistan,” she added.

Tundra Pakistan Country Head Muhammad Shamoon Tariq said, “We want to make the business community of Pakistan understand that sustainability and profitability go hand in hand. Sustainable businesses will be more profitable in medium to long term.”

Until recently, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) was not structured to do its part in the sustainable goals, said PSX MD Richard Morin, adding that there are 85 stock exchanges in the world promoting development goals. However, he said that now the administration is working on it and PSX could be the 86th stock market making its listed companies responsible for sustainable solutions.

Stressing on the importance of technology, Swedish illusionist Charlie Caper said it could bring a rich country down and boost growth in a poor country.
