Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing, Town Planning, and Public Health Engineering, Saeed Ghani, met with the Karachi Press Club’s (KPC) governing body on April 24 to discuss issues related to press freedom.

The meeting highlighted PPP’s historical support for journalists and its commitment to providing them with necessary facilities such as grants and residential plots. Ghani announced that the provincial government’s grant to KPC would be increased and assured that the long-standing issue of Journalist Colony would be resolved. He recognized the critical role journalists play in delivering truthful news to the public and noted the inherent risks in their work.

However, KPC President Saeed Sarbazi raised concerns about the slow progress in developing plots allocated to journalists by the Malir Development Authority (MDA). He explained that frequent transfers and postings of MDA officials have contributed to delays.

Ghani assured Sarbazi that he would address these issues promptly. He committed to supporting journalists in their quest for improved working conditions.

Ghani reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding press freedom in the province. Ghani mentioned that the government is open to collaborating with the press club on development initiatives in the city.
