SIALKOT (December 17 2007): The Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad has said that the ECP would extend necessary facilities and assistance to media ensuring the coverage of election process in the country. The ECP has printed as many as 50 lakh special cards to facilitate the journalist community, he disclosed.

The upcoming elections 2008 is very crucial for the country and it is high time that journalists should become instrumental in creating awareness among the mass so that people should exercise their voting rights at the large, said Dilshad.

Addressing the APP National Conclave General Elections 2008, held in Islamabad he added that the ECP has made all necessary arrangements for holding fair, free and transparent elections in a congenial environment.

Dilshad revealed that for the first time in the political history of Pakistan, the ECP would be using transparent and waterproof ballot boxes in the fast approaching election to ensure it’s transparent feature. As many as 4,30,000 transparent and waterproof ballot boxes have been imported from China which would be provided to Returning Officers shortly in the country he disclosed. Dilshad was of opinion that use of transparent ballot boxes in elections, would certainly help clearing doubts expressed by some participating candidates.
